Welcome to Duntroon

The biggest little town in the Waitaki Valley

A sweet spot to stop

Our little town is located on SH 83 beside the mighty Waitaki River and the Maerawhenua River.
Here a traveler can stop to refresh and enjoy the historic Nicol's Blacksmith Shop . Check out the original Duntroon Gaol and discover the geological history of the Waitaki region at The Vanished World Heritage Centre or walk through the Duntroon Wetlands and take in the Brewery Hole and sculptures. Choose to relax at the Flying Pig Cafe or the Duntroon Hotel.
Duntroon is the penulimate stop for cyclists on the magnificent Alps2Ocean Cycle Trail. Accommodation is available in the town. So plan to stay and enjoy the activities within our town and beyond.

Nicol's Blacksmith
We are fundraising again! It's been 10 years since we restored our original village blacksmith and if we are to keep it standing for another 100 years we need to keep it well maintained. We are in the process of getting quotes to get it re-stained and the roof checked as well as some running repairs on some of the original infrastructure that is still in use today. We have started a Givealittle page to make donating easier in this digital world. We are reaching out this way to help us get some seed funding for when we apply to funding organisations.
It is the only Heritage NZ category listed village blacksmith in NZ! If you wish to donate, either click on the link to donate through Givealittle or directly into our bank account. 06-0941-0185123-00 Nicol's Blacksmith Historic Trust. ANZ. Put "Donation" a reference and it will go straight into our project fund. DONATE HEREMany thanks in advance,Jan Keeling, Trust Chair

A Duntroon Cemetery memorabilia file of information on past Duntroon residents is currently being compiled for display in the sexton shed. The purpose of this is to provide an avenue for those of us who wish to share family history information, stories and photos from the people of Duntroon and district with visitors to the cemetery. The profile page for the file is available for retrieval HERE. Please feel free to copy, complete and return it to us at ‘The Digger’ or email us directly to obtain a copy. We would love to hear from you. Email:duntroondigger@gmail.com
