Welcome to Duntroon

The biggest little town in the Waitaki Valley

A sweet spot to stop

Our little town is located on SH 83 beside the mighty Waitaki River and the Maerawhenua River.
Here a traveler can stop to refresh and enjoy the historic Nicol's Blacksmith Shop. Check out the original Duntroon Gaol and discover the geological history of the Waitaki region at The Vanished World Heritage Centre or walk through the Duntroon Wetlands and take in the Brewery Hole and sculptures. Choose to relax at the Flying Pig Cafe or the Duntroon Hotel.
Duntroon is the penulimate stop for cyclists on the magnificent Alps2Ocean Cycle Trail. Accommodation is available in the town. So plan to stay and enjoy the activities within our town and beyond.

A Duntroon Cemetery memorabilia file of information on past Duntroon residents is currently being compiled for display in the sexton shed. The purpose of this is to provide an avenue for those of us who wish to share family history information, stories and photos from the people of Duntroon and district with visitors to the cemetery. The profile page for the file is available for retrieval HERE. Please feel free to copy, complete and return it to us at ‘The Digger’ or email us directly to obtain a copy. We would love to hear from you. Email:duntroondigger@gmail.com
